Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims after swiftly repelling a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military, in a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the operation followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 26, 2026, reporting that a large group of terrorists had invaded the community.
According to the statement, the assailants, who arrived on about 40 motorcycles, rounded up scores of residents with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group remained at the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
Troops of Sector 2 immediately mobilized to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. The superior firepower and rapid response forced the attackers to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the surrounding bush.
The military confirmed that all 48 abducted civilians were successfully rescued during the operation.
However, the attack claimed the life of one civilian, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the rescue mission, troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to dominate the general environment and prevent any further terrorist attacks.
The Theatre Command commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the troops, describing the operation as another demonstration of the military’s resolve to protect lives and property across the North West.
It also reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
