…Calls for enhanced security in schools nationwide

Owing to the timely intervention of the federal government and security agencies in securing the safe release of Prof. Bassey Udoh and his family members, the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association has applauded the F.G stressing that this is laudable and quite commendable.

Recall that on the 2nd of November, there was an invasion of the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada FCT and among those kidnapped were the wife and son of one of our Alumni members, Prof. Bassey Udoh.

In a press statement on Friday, signed by the National Publicity Secretary Mr. Ono Akpe, the AG. National President of the Alumni, Mr Ewitat Uduak stated that the prompt nature of the government in apprehending the culprits and securing their release deserves appreciation from all quarters.

According to Uduak, this singular act of the government and security agencies has brought a lot of respite to everyone in the country adding that this is a sign of hope which confirms that Nigerians believe that with the right motivation the present administration has the ability to secure lives and property of its citizenry.

Uniport Alumni added that as a matter of urgency, the F.G must ensure security is beefed up around all schools, universities and educational institutions within the country to curb the frequency of such national embarrassment.

In addition, Uniport Alumni called on all its members both within the country and abroad to rally round the family as it assured them of comfort and safety in the hands of God.

However, the association stressed that the Invasion of the University environment as well as secondary schools across the country that had been under devastating attacks which began with the kidnap of the Chibok girls, tell a lot about a problem that has being allowed to fester for so long.

He Futher appealed to the Federal Government to do something urgently about this problem to avoid a total collapse in the country’s educational system especially in Northern Nigeria.
