All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Group has called on federal and state governments to increase budgetary allocation to Universal Basic Education (UBE) in order to tackle the high rate of out of school children in the country.

The leader of the group, Dr. Tom Ohikere made the call during the group’s visit to Jigawa State to assess the progress made in the basic education sector in the state.

He said it is sad that nearly 13.5 million children in Nigeria are out-of-school, adding that all hands must be on deck to reduce this number to the barest minimum.

According to him, provision of accessible and qualitative basic education is the foundation for higher education and establishment of driving forces for social and economic development in any society.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the state deputy governor the APC media team leader Dr. Tom Ohikere commended Jigawa State’s commitment to the improvement of universal basic education in the state.

Dr Tom also described the progress recorded in Jigawa basic education as a clear manifestation of judicious use of federal and state interventions in the sector.
He said the team was in the state as part of their nationwide tour of assessing the progress made towards improving universal basic education in all APC controlled states.

In his remarks, the deputy governor Alhaji Umar Namadi thanked the team for the visit and for its plans to publicise the progress made in basic education sector.
