Cricket Club Abuja (CCA) Resumes Action After The Covid-19 Break

The Cricket Club Abuja resumed action at its home ground this Sunday with an exciting game of Cricket between two selected sides of Abuja residents and members of the Club. The game which was a 20 Overs game presented many exciting moments that saw “Team Regi” come in to bat against “Team Manish” and scoring 139 runs at the end of 20 overs. Mr. Regi Gelorge, who is the President of the Cricket Club Abuja scored 47 runs which was the highest score of the game, Pankaj scored 31 runs.

In the second innings, team B came in to chase 139 runs and did the chase very vigorously. By the 15th over, team B scored 144 runs to overcome team A. Top scorers for team B are Mr. Abishek Patel who scored 36 runs, Manish Khide scored 33 runs and Nitin scored 32 runs. Team B won with 5 runs.

It will be recalled that at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cricket Club went on a forced break which preceded the nationwide lockdown vide an announcement on its Facebook page signed by the Club President, Mr. Regi George.

The Cricket Club Abuja has been at the forefront of Cricket development in the FCT with numerous tournaments, Leagues and Cricket coaching clinics in its Basket of achievements. Its current President is Mr. Regi George, a man completely committed to the development of Cricket in the FCT and its environs, has left no stone unturned to make sure the game goes on in the FCT. Past Presidents of the club include, Mr. Dipo Idowu who is the pioneer President of the CCA. Others are Engr. Emeka Onyeama who is a past President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation and Mr. Oludare Aimola, was a serving member of the recently dissolved Board of the Nigeria Cricket Federation representing the North Central Zone.

The CCA was formed in 2006 when Cricketers resident in the FCT felt a need to create the conditions necessary for the game to be played in the Federal Capital of Nigeria. In its 15 years of existence the Club has produced an NCF President, a board member of the NCF as well as maintaining the Cricket Oval at the Package “B” of the National Stadium in Abuja.

The Cricket Club Abuja has also produced three FCT Cricket Association Chairmen, namely Arch. Robert (Rock) Nde, Barr. Emuobo Odje and Engr. Emeka Onyeama. Saad Butt was also an FCT Cricket Association board member. Membership is open to all Cricketers resident in the FCT and its environs regardless of nationality.
