Operatives of the Department of State Services and American security forces have busted what looks like a terrorists cell in Trademore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja.

The Network reported that a crack team of operatives combined with the US forces stormed the abode of the suspects and arrested two brothers at the quiet Abuja Estate.

Investigations revealed that the security operatives shut down the entire estate with movement restricted to arrest the terror suspects.

A security source confirmed the successful raid and arrest of the terror suspects but did not give any further details according to The Network.

It was further gathered that the DSS and US security forces seized boxes of explosives and two pistols from the suspects.

The items were said to have been recovered in an apartment rented by the brothers in the estate.

The Chairman of the estate, (name withheld) who expressed worry over the incident urged the residents to embark on a know-your-neighbour-campaign.

He said in a brief advisory to the residents that he would not disclose the details of the investigation for security reasons.

He said, “Good Evening Fellow residents, It’s no longer News that there was a High Powered Sting Operation in Phase 3 this afternoon, culminating in a complete shutdown of our estate. A combination of American Army and our DSS team were responsible.

“We are unable to give full details of the reason(s) behind the operation, however, we can confirm that there was an allegation of terrorist activities.

“It is therefore desperately incumbent on every resident to remain vigilant, KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS and report any suspicious movement, person or activities to the Exco, Street Reps and/the Police.

“We will continue to do our utmost best to keep the estate safe for all of us. Everyone is responsible for security and there should be no iota of abdication of this responsibility.

“Finally, let’s remain calm and continue to carry out our daily activities within the parameters of the Law. God bless and protect us all.”

Meanwhile the United States government has granted approval for evacuation of its government employees and their families from Nigeria over potential terrorist attacks.

The US State Department announced the approval for the evacuation of its government employees in an update to its Nigeria travel advisory on Tuesday evening.

The United States Embassy in Nigeria had hinted of a high risk of planned terror attack in Abuja.

The Embassy said in a security alert issued on Sunday on its website that the terrorists are targeting government buildings, places of worship, markets and others.

The statement noted that the U.S. Embassy will offer reduced services until further notice.

The Embassy warned its citizens against all non essential travels and to be alert.

“There is an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, specifically in Abuja.

“Targets may include, but are not limited to, government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations.

“The U.S. Embassy will offer reduced services until further notice.

“Actions to Take:

  • Avoid all non-essential travel or movement.
  • Stay alert.
  • Avoid crowds.

Review your personal security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency. Carry proper identification,” the statement read.

But the DSS and the Police have reassured the citizenry especially the residents of Abuja to remain calm and assured the citizenry of Safety and adequate security in their separate reactions to the terror alert.
