The Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, accompanied by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere led other top government functionaries on a courtesy call on former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson at his country home in Toru Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, on Friday 31st of December, 2021.

Senator Dickson received the Bayelsa State Governor in company of his wife along with the Toru Orua Traditional Council of Chiefs who had earlier paid him a courtesy visit but decide to stay behind to welcome the August visitor upon being informed of his coming. Senator Dickson has been vacationing in Toru Orua amidst a busy schedule of sporting and development-based initiatives sponsored by his Foundation, the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation.

According to Governor Diri, knowing the nature of Senator Dickson’s busy holiday schedule and his knowledge that Dickson will be spending his entire holiday in the country side and having been informed by the State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ingobere, that he planned to visit Senator Dickson on Friday, 31st of December, 2021, he told the speaker that he also had such thoughts and this culminated in their plot to ambush him in a positive way.

Governor Diri said, the former governor of the state, Senator Seriake Dickson and his Restoration Administration is the father of his Prosperity Administration. This was so because many top functionaries of the former are found in great numbers in the later.

Speaking earlier, Senator Dickson said he and Governor Douye Diri have been allies for a long time starting from their days as activists in the Ijaw National Congress. He said Senator Diri was his brother, his friend and his colleague. Further more, Senator Dickson said the relationship between him and Governor Diri is a relationship that he will treasure for a very long time.

Former Governor Dickson said today is not a day for political talk as this was the Christmas period and the governor was visiting in the spirit of solitary and fraternity. He thanked Governor Diri and his entourage that included top government functionaries, on behalf of himself, his family, his community and its people  for the visit.

Senator Dickson told Governor Diri that just like Idi Amin would say, he will “retaliate” the Governor’s ambush, not in Yenagoa but in Sampou, his home town. He said because Diri is the governor and the leader of the state, his own ambush may not be as perfect as Diri’s ambush.

Senator Dickson re-emphasized the significance of the Governor’s visit as a mark of fraternity, brotherliness, support and encouragement for one another. Subsequently,  he enjoined all in the Governor’s entourage, particularly those working with the governor and the state government to carry on with this spirit of unity, solidarity and support for one another.

Lastly, Senator Dickson wished Governor Douye Diri and all the members of his entourage and administration,  a happy New Year.

Also speaking in response to Senator Dickson’s welcome remarks, the Bayelsa State Governor first recognized those present and said he and his entourage were here to celebrate with their leader and that even when people call him “our father”, it will not be misplaced.  He said this is because God has used Senator Dickson to give birth to a Governor. For this reason, Governor Diri said that Senator Seriake Dickson is actually a father and in some interpretations, “a grandfather “.

Governor Diri noted that, it was proper to give glory to God for all that has happened in Bayelsa State but that, God would always use somebody to effect his will in our lives. In this regard, he said, “this house is the house and Senator Dickson is the Man God used to make this happen in Bayelsa State and for him, as the governor.
