The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) says it is in the process of incorporating leadership into educational institutions to arrest the social vices.
Mr. Oluremi Sola-Philips, Acting Director-General, CLTC, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
Sola-Philips said that the Act, which would guarantee the incorporation of the curriculum into various educational institutions, was before the National Assembly.
According to him, if passed into law, the Act will help address the insecurity including kidnapping, banditry and social vices by the youths.
“We have an act which has passed through the second reading and we are expecting this to be passed into law.
As soon as it is passed into law, we will have all the instruments to use and we can now go to all our educational institutions of learning and incorporate this leadership curriculum into all schools.
“This will be very impactful as it will prepare the youths for tomorrow’s assignment and this subject will be taught right from the elementary class,” he said.
The acting D-G also noted that the act would aid the transformation of the nation as a whole thereby bringing peace, unity and sanity to the larger society.
He said that the centre had in its 70 years of existence, trained over 10 million youths on character development, self-sustainability, moral and value reorientation to address their minds from all manners of vices.
Sola-Philips said that the centre would continue in creating awareness on the need for the youths to be trained to positively impact the nation and as well be useful to themselves.
According to him, continuous training of youths will go a long way to solving many challenges facing the country; challenges often perpetrated by youths.
He pledged to expand the scope of operations and content of the centre’s training through the democratic process and inclusive governance to make it more visible to the citizens.
NAN reports that the acting D-G was appointed by the Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare and assumed office on June 18, after the tenure of former D-G, Mr Jonah Bawa.
